SafeNet's SafeXcel IP Now Available in the Newly Introduced AMD Alchemy Au1550 Security Network Processor
SAN FRANCISCO—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Feb. 24, 2004—
SafeNet (NASDAQ:SFNT), a leading provider of private
and public network security solutions that set the standard for
securing virtual private and wide area networks, today announced that
its SafeXcel(TM) IP, license-ready intellectual property, is now
available in the newly introduced Au1550(TM) security network
processor from Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD). AMD is a global
supplier of integrated circuits for the computing, communications, and
consumer electronics markets. AMD is also using SafeNet's CGX Mobile
Library in order to easily port security functionality to the
processor.
"Our SafeXcel IP has proven to be a successful part of our
long-term strategy of deploying our security technology to a broad and
diverse set of markets, including the consumer market--AMD is a
leading supplier of processors which address huge markets," said
Anthony Caputo, Chairman, and CEO of SafeNet. "AMD's new Au1550
security network processors, which target the wireless, access, and
entertainment markets, will allow our SafeXcel IP to be more widely
deployed in these markets."
Targeted at wired and wireless applications where security, design
flexibility, performance, and low power are important, AMD's Au1550
processor is a 500 MHz, MIPS 32-based, dual MAC security processor.
The Au1550 processor is currently sampling and will be available in
production quantities in the second quarter of 2004. SafeNet's
SafeXcel IP is integrated into the Au1550 processor to provide
hardware security acceleration and offload the burden of
compute-intensive applications. SafeNet's CGX Mobile Library provides
AMD with a tool for their customers to design appropriate security
solutions using a common API.
AMD chose SafeNet's technology to augment their processor with the
critical security features it needed, without sacrificing
time-to-market, performance, or quality. SafeNet provided AMD a
turnkey solution based on proven security technology used by so many
leading developers of networking and wireless products. SafeNet also
offered a common software API that enables multiple performance
solutions with many hardware configurations and platforms.
"SafeNet is a leader in the security field and especially in
providing complete security hardware and software solutions. AMD's
customers will benefit from both the added security and performance
provided by SafeNet's IP," said Phil Pompa, vice president of
marketing for AMD's Personal Connectivity Solutions group.
"Additionally, our customers will be able to quickly develop secure
applications to meet the needs of their target markets."
SafeNet and AMD will be demonstrating the new Au1550 security
network processor using SafeNet's technology, in booth number 1628 at
the RSA Show in San Francisco.
